Frequently Asked Questions
What is today’s Hijri date?
The converter at the top of this page shows today’s Hijri date according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. Local dates can differ by a day depending on moon sighting.
Why can Islamic dates differ by a day?
Islamic months begin with the sighting of the new moon, and countries follow different sighting decisions or calculations, so dates can vary by one day.
How many days are in a Hijri year?
A Hijri year has 12 lunar months of 29 or 30 days — about 354 or 355 days — so Islamic dates move about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.
Which calendar does this converter use?
It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia, the most widely used calculated Hijri calendar.
