Frequently Asked Questions
How much is Fitrana per person?
Fitrana (Sadaqat al-Fitr) is based on the value of a set quantity of staple food such as wheat, barley, dates or raisins. Local scholars announce a rate each year — enter it in the calculator.
Who must pay Fitrana?
The head of the household pays Fitrana for himself and for each dependant, including children, if he has wealth beyond his basic needs. It should be given before the Eid prayer.
What is the difference between Fidya and Kaffarah?
Fidya is paid for each fast a person cannot keep or make up, such as due to old age or chronic illness. Kaffarah is the expiation for deliberately breaking a Ramadan fast without a valid reason: fasting 60 consecutive days or, if unable, feeding 60 poor people.
Should I check with a scholar?
Yes. Rulings differ between schools and individual situations, so confirm the amount and conditions with a qualified scholar.
